There are a few things I look forward to all the time, unequivocally and unabashedly. One of them is dessert. Have you noticed that most of my food-related posts are confectionery? (Like this one...oh, and this one, too.) Then it won't surprise you to know that I'm excited about this Sunday night when I'll be hosting a little casual dessert night for my husband's family, who are all visiting this weekend.
The trick to this get-together is that 3 of the guests are allergic to...well, between them, it seems just about everything: wheat, dairy, nuts, strawberries, etc. My solution is to make one thing without regard to this - Banana Cream Pie - and one free of the offending allergens - Apple and Blackberry Sorbet.
It seems like a logical solution to me and both sound equally delicious. But I'd really like to know...
What would you do in a situation like this? Is it better etiquette to only offer things that everyone can enjoy? If you have allergies, would you be offended if you were invited to something where some of the foods were off-limits?

I think a hostess making an allergy-free dessert is above and beyond the call of duty! I can see the other side of the argument, though. I tend to think about the quantity of people here - if I was having one couple over for dinner, I would probably be more accommodating. But if there are more, I think I'm off the hook on having to please everyone! Or there's the argument that the more desserts, the better!!!

I just looked at your previous dessert posts and I think that Carmel Ice Cream should be at the top of our "To Make" list this summer!!!! Should we bring our ice cream maker???
