Last night while at the home improvement store (we're there alot these days) I was browsing through the books, trying to keep the little one entertained while his dad searched for more painting supplies. While he was trying to find rocks and stones in a Seek & Find Ice Age book, I started thumbing through the design and food books. And I was so happy to see that Karen and Alan, the authors of Hello, Cupcake!, have come out with a second edition of their creative cookbook! What's New, Cupcake? is full of all sorts of adorable and clever ideas for making hilarious, entertaining little cakes. Like the koi pond cupcakes...
...and the apple cupcakes. How cute would these be as an end of the year thank-you gift for a teacher?
There were so many other great ideas in the book. It's really worth checking out. It'd be a great addition to a cookbook collection - to save you in those times when you need something to really wow, but you've got nothing but a box of cake mix in the cupboard - and for any other time, too. I'd love to do these as a baking project on a rainy afternoon.
Have you ever come up with your own cupcake designs? What did you do?

We just got that book! I thought the "chinese food" cupcakes were amazing.
