Have you heard the saying that everything tastes better when it's homemade? It's really true, even when it comes to things that we often take for granted as always being store-bought. Like granola bars, for example.
This recipe for granola bars is delicious just the way it is; it's chewy, a little bit sticky and has a wholesome but still sweet flavor. What I love most about it, though, is that it's also a fabulous jumping off point for making your own variations. Instead of the cardamom and raisins, try cinnamon and dried blueberries, or dried apricots with a little allspice and nutmeg thrown in. You can really use this as a base for coming up with what you and your family love most.
Granola bars can be a big help when life gets hectic. They're perfect for an on-the-go breakfast, to bulk up your lunch, for an after-school snack or to tide you over until dinner if it's going to be a late one. We find ourselves bringing them to the park, to softball games and just about everywhere in between.
What are your favorite granola bar fillings? I'd love to hear what you'd put inside them!
